R Ashwin says never asked ICC to relax 15-degree rule for bowling doosra: I will never say such a thing

ff-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin clarified that he has not appealed for the relaxation of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) 15-degree elbow flexion rule while bowling the “doosra”.

Ashwin’s clarification came in response to media reports saying that he appealed to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to relax the rule on his Youtube channel.

“Really?? Pls don’t carry wrong stuff!! I will never say such a thing,” said Ashwin on Twitter.

“Wrong wrong wrong!! My channel is done for all the right reasons and audience to know cricket better. If you can’t get such basic stuff right in translation, pls don’t carry such poor news,” Ashwin said in another tweet.

Ashwin is currently in England with the rest of the Indian team who are gearing up for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand. The match will be held from June 18 to 22 at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

Earlier, the 34-year-old gave a cheeky response to former batsman Sanjay Manjrekar saying that Ashwin is not an all-time great yet.

Ashwin replied to Manjrekar’s tweet with a famous dialogue from the Tamil movie ‘‘Aparachith’. “Apdi Solladha Da Chaari, Manasellam Valikirdhu,” his tweet read. When translated into English, the dialogue can be read as: “Don’t say things like that, it hurts.”
