A fire broke out at a factory on the outskirts of Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka, killing 52 people and injuring over 50. According to reports, the fire started in the ground floor of the building which spread rapidly due to chemicals and plastic bottles. Fire officials said that the incident took place around 5 pm on Thursday at Shejan Juice Factory in Roopganj in Narayanganj.
The ‘Dhaka Tribune’ in its report said that several workers jumped from the building to escape from the massive fire, which either killed or seriously injured them. According to news agency PTI, 18 fire tenders are engaged to douse the fire that broke out in the factory building of Hashem Foods Limited. Many people are still said to be missing.
Local people have gathered at the spot in search of their relatives. The rescued laborers and their families have alleged that the exit gate of the factory was closed when the fire broke out. The workers also claimed that no proper fire safety arrangements were made in the building.
